SALEM: DMDK founder Vijaykanth played spoilsport at a much-hyped party meet here on Sunday, revealing nothing about his mind on possible political alliance for the coming Assembly elections.
“Leave it to me,” he told cadres, who waited seven hours to hear his thoughts.
At the end of a circumlocutory speech, when ‘Captain’ asked his cadres to raise their hands if they preferred the party to be in any alliance, a majority approved. After a long pause, however, the DMDK chief said, “Normally in the Legislative Assembly, the majority view would prevail. But in our case, let me make the decision.” He added, “I will not be a stumbling block to your wish but at the same time I don’t want to clinch any opportunistic alliance either.” Undeterred by his ambivalence, his cadres cheered when he said, “You must all be like Krishna and fight the evil force (CM Karunanidhi) out.”
Leaving room for future tie-ups, he said, “Without you, no party in the state can come to power”.
Vijaykanth’s wife Premalatha, brother-in-law L K Sudhish and other party leaders urged cadres help put their leader in power to end the present rule.
